After unpacking, inspect the leaves, stems, and soil carefully. Do not confuse minor shipping marks with serious disease, but do not ignore rapidly spreading dark patches, foul-smelling soil, soft tissue, or obvious pests.
Provide bright indirect light rather than harsh direct sun.
Water only if the soil truly needs it. Delivery itself is not proof that a plant is thirsty.
Do not rush into repotting, fertilizing, or major pruning. Those steps can wait unless there is a genuine emergency.
The first 6–12 hours are mainly about allowing conditions to stabilize. The next 12 hours are useful for observation. During the second day, you can judge the overall direction: is the plant stabilizing, or is something continuing to worsen?
The most useful indicator is not one damaged leaf but the overall trend.
If after 48 hours the plant is stable, the soil behaves predictably, the foliage is not rapidly losing firmness, and no serious new symptoms are appearing, you have already done the most important thing: you have allowed the plant to adjust without adding unnecessary stress.
Long-term success will depend on light, watering, soil quality, and microclimate, but these first two days create the foundation. Sometimes the most expert form of plant care looks remarkably simple: place the plant in sensible conditions, observe carefully, and avoid doing more simply because you want faster results.
