Dogs are more likely to knock into large plants with their tails, tip over pots while playing, or dig through the potting mix. Cats may chew leaves, scratch trunks, jump into planters, or use loose soil as a convenient toilet. It may look dramatic, but even a badly damaged plant can often be saved if you act calmly and methodically.
The first step is to separate two different concerns: helping the plant and protecting the animal.
